Well my busy week is finally over! I got every cake competed and sent where they needed to go. Not only was the week filled with speciality cakes, but of these cakes many were out of town one even going to Adelaide. My final cake to complete for the week was the 21st cake for my son's girlfriend, Megan. She was having a Disney themed party and got a movie theme cake - that was completed at 5:30am the morning of the party! Very tiring week but very fulfilling to be able to get it done and have all my clients thrilled with their special cakes.
This week is a little quieter, but still a big one. With the lead up to Christmas I have many orders for the new cupcake wreaths and Chrissy themed cupcakes. I have a very close friends daughters 17th birthday and I am currently completing a horse themed cake for her. My week gets hectic towards the end though with a wedding requiring 150 cupcakes and a small wedding cake. The wedding is of a friend and after doing the cake for her engagement party (the cake on my home page) I am thrilled to be making the cakes for the big day.
Will update tomorrow with the photos of the 17th cake in production stage and will update on the cakes for the wedding soon.

Ok, so Thomas is almost done, took two goes to get the shape of him correct but I am very happy with the result. I took some photos along the way to help illustrate the processes involved.
After the shape is carved for the cake, I cover the cake completely in the dominant colour of fondant, in this case blue:
The carriage is still to come, and final photos will be posted to the gallery.
One of the three 21st cakes I have to make this week is almost completed, just adding finishing touches; a tag with her name on it and happy 21st birthday, made out of fondant.

This week is a busy week at Kristin's Kakes, I have three 21st cakes for the weekend and a 3rd birthday cake for a boy in Adelaide. The cakes are made and today I will be carving and beginning to fondant the cakes. The 3rd birthday cake is going to be the first one that will going into the design phase. The customer requires a Thomas the Tank engine cake, so I am doing Thomas with an extra carriage.
One of the 21st cakes will be a bright, flowery design and the other is yet to be determined - party is a Disney theme so it will follow along those lines.
The third 21st party requires 50 cupcakes for their birthday and each cupcake will be decorated with fondant designs.
Will update on how the other cake construction is going and what I decide to do for the second 21st cake.

I am going to blog as I create and complete my cakes to not only show insight into what I do and how I go about completing the cakes, but to also give hints and tips for cake making and decorating.
